I’ve already decided that 2017 is going to be ridiculously amazing.

Happy January 1 – the day of cliches, nostalgic look-backs, and often empty promises.

That said, here’s my contribution to the new year.

2016 was quite a different year than I expected. December of 2015, I sat down and wrote this big list of goals for the following year. I couldn’t shake the fact that in a year and a half, I would turn 30. And I wanted to achieve some things before then, dammit! Big things. Maybe too big.

Because it’s a year later (look-back time) and how many have I achieved?

3 of my original 30 goals. In a year. With 3 months left before I turn 30. Terrible? No. Could my accomplishments have been more? Yes, probably. But aren’t most goal lists pretty unrealistic anyway? Indeed they are.

However, this being a new year (a fresh start, they say!), we’re looking on the bright side today. Sure, I didn’t achieve much of that list I made in 2015, but my actual 2016 experiences pretty much blew that list out of the water anyway.

#21 for example – Be single and enjoy it. Okay, that was a good idea. Live for myself, make my own decisions, stop jumping from relationship to relationship. Well sometimes life puts something so good in front of you, it’s pretty impossible to say no, whatever your previous intentions. And when this guy came along, I knew immediately that he was different (cliches as promised, don’t say I didn’t warn you!).

So no, I didn’t ever really embrace being that single, completely unattached girl. Instead, I found the man I intend to fall in love with over and over again every day for the rest of my life. I think I’m okay with scratching out #21.

Oh and here’s the biggest surprise of all in 2016.

Baby Ultrasound Ornament from Pearhead

I sure never thought I’d be having a baby before I turned 30. It was my goal to travel, stay young, and maybe make a few more reckless decisions. Of course life doesn’t stop with a baby on the way, but it sure as hell changes. So for 2017, here’s my new 30 before 30 list.
